HI! I am Diane Chew, a certified life coach, dementia caregiver and creator of The JoyQuest - a transformational journey that helps caregivers move through the stages of survival stability, peace and joy.
When my husband Ben was diagnosed with dementia, I thought our lives were over. The fear, exhaustion and heartbreak felt unbearable. But little by little - through faith, mindset shifts, and daily moments of self care - I began to see caregiving not as a burden, but as sacred work.
I learned that we don't stay in joy forever - caregiving changes moment to moment. But with the right tools, we can return to peace and even joy, again and again, no matter what's happening around us. That's what the JoyQuest is all about.
Today I teach caregivers practical ways to calm their nervous systems, strengthen their mindset, and reconnect to their purpose - one breath, one prayer, one "Oxygen Mask Moment" at a time.
I've been honored to share this message on 6abc Action News, PBS, Good Rx and Jesus Calling, reaching caregivers across the country who are ready to see their work - and themselves - differently.
Whether you're just beginning your caregiving journey or have been walking it for years, my mission is to help you find moments of peace, rediscover your strength, and remember that you are never alone.
We break the coaching process down into 4 simple steps that we cycle through as circumstances shift and change:
Current Situation
Definition of Success
Resources and Obstacles
Action Steps
Throughout the coaching process, we focus on the following principles that apply in every circumstance when caring for a loved one living with dementia:
Connect daily with your power source: whatever you consider to be bigger than your own thoughts and feelings.
Put the oxygen mask on yourself first.
Focus on what you can control.
Release old expectations.
Practice forgiveness and compassion - “they know not what they do.”
